(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) said the motorcycle rider killed in a crash in May has been identified as 28-year-old Elvin Jose Irizarry Iglesias by the El Paso County Coroner’s Office.
According to CSPD, on Friday, May 16, at around 10 p.m., officers responded to a crash at Hancock Expressway approaching the Circle Drive underpass in southeast Colorado Springs. When police arrived, they found the rider of the motorcycle, Iglesias, dead on the scene.
The Major Crash Team responded and took over the crash investigation. According to CSPD, the motorcycle was traveling north on Hancock Expressway, and as the bike navigated a right-hand curve of the roadway, it crossed over the double yellow center dividing line and hit a southbound vehicle. Iglesias was ejected and died on the scene.
The driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. On May 16, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy and identified the motorcycle rider as Iglesias.
CSPD said this is the 14th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs this year. At this time last year, there were 19 fatalities.
