(EL PASO COUNTY) — The El Paso County (EPSO) and Teller County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) have confirmed that a man who was arrested for assault was a TCSO deputy.
Just after 8 a.m. on Nov. 2, the EPSO Regional Communications Center received an emergency call from a house in the 200 block of Peck Court in the Security-Widefield area of El Paso County.
According to EPSO, the caller reported they were hiding in a locked room after a verbal altercation with a roommate turned physical. The victim told police that a man, now identified as 39-year-old John Taylor, assaulted them.
EPSO deputies responded to the call and observed that the victim had visible injuries to the head when arriving on the scene. According to the EPSO official release, Taylor then left the house, identified himself as a Taylor County deputy, and was detained by EPSO.
After Taylor and the victim were interviewed, the victim was treated by medical personnel at the scene and taken to the hospital.
Taylor was booked into the El Paso County Jail for Second Degree Assault and Domestic Violence. He was released on Nov. 4 on a $10,000 bond. According to a TCSO official, Taylor has been a deputy with the sheriff’s office since Dec. 17, 2018, and is currently on paid administrative leave.
