(COLORADO SPRINGS) — On Jan. 19, 2024, bands at Air Academy High School will battle it out in memory of former classmate Riley Whitelaw, who was tragically killed on June 11, 2022, while working at a local Walgreens.
The Air Academy Student Council organized the event, where bands will battle and audience members will vote for their favorite band by contributing dollars as votes. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7:00 p.m. The event will raise funds for the Riley Whitelaw Scholarship Fund, which extends grants and scholarships to AAHS students.
A website has been established for the Riley Whitelaw Scholarship Fund, which states, “We were compelled to create a light in Riley’s honor that might help other students like Riley achieve their potential by offering academic scholarships and art/other grants.”
If you are attending the Jan. 19 AAHS Battle of the Bands event, organizers ask that you make sure to have your student ID, DBID card, or driver’s license, as you will need your ID to access the Air Force Academy grounds. The cost of entry is $10 cash at the door.
