Actress Shelley Duvall dies at 75

(KTLA) – Actress Shelley Duvall, famous for her role in “The Shining, ” has died at 75.

Duvall, the intrepid movie star whose wide-eyed, winsome presence was a mainstay in the films of Robert Altman, passed away in her sleep at her Blanco, Texas, home Thursday due to “complications from diabetes,” her partner Dan Gilroy told The Hollywood Reporter.

Duvall and Gilroy have been together since 1986.

“My dear, sweet, wonderful life partner and friend left us. Too much suffering lately, now she’s free. Fly away, beautiful Shelley,” Gilroy told the outlet.

Duvall was attending junior college in Texas when Altman’s staff members, preparing to film “Brewster McCloud,” encountered her at a party in Houston in 1970. She would go on to become Altman’s protege.

Duvall starred alongside Jack Nicholson in Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 thriller “The Shining.”

That same year, she played Olive Oyl to Robin Williams’ Popeye in the live-action movie about the famous comic character.
