DENVER (KDVR) — A South Adams County fire crew, Adams County sheriff’s deputy and Platte Valley Ambulance Service team on Sunday helped bring a new life into the world.

The South Adams County Fire Department on Facebook said their Engine 23 crew responded to a vehicle crash that turned into a childbirth in progress, and when they arrived, an Adams County deputy holding a newborn baby who had just been delivered moments before.

Denver weather: More showers, storms and cooler temps

The crew jumped in to assist the deputy and provided life-sustaining care for both the mother and baby.

They wrapped the baby in a blanket and initiated stimulation efforts and were rewarded with the baby’s first cry. They also clamped and cut the baby’s umbilical cord.

Once in the ambulance, the first responders still cared for both mother and baby, “creating a joyful moment for the mother as she held her healthy baby girl for the first time,” according to the fire department.

The delivering OB physician praised Engine 23 for their “great job” and “excellent care,” the fire department said.
