Alleged road rage incident now a homicide investigation

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has made an arrest on an alleged road rage incident that occurred in July.

On Thursday, July 24, officers responded to a call of a car vs. pedestrian crash near the intersection of North Union Boulevard and Hillcrest Avenue.

The investigation revealed there was a road rage incident, and the individual was run over by the vehicle. The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Daniel Nations, allegedly ran over another driver who had gotten out of their car to confront Nations over an apparent road rage incident. Nations then allegedly left the scene.


CSPD identifies suspect who allegedly ran over another driver

Nations was arrested the same day and was booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center (CJC) on an Assault in the First Degree charge.

The victim was transported to the hospital and treated for multiple injuries and was in critical condition. On July 27, CSPD was informed that the victim, identified as 35-year-old Jacob Martinez, had passed away from his injuries. The El Paso County Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death.

At that time, detectives from CSPD’s Violent Crimes Section, Homicide Unit, were assigned to the investigation. On July 29, Nations was charged with Murder in the First Degree and remains in custody at the CJC.
