EPSO wins inaugural charity invitational

(BENNET, Colo.) — Friday, Aug. 1, the UCHealth Memorial Health System Foundation hosted the first annual UCHealth Sporting Clays Invitational. This event, hosted by UCHealth Southern Colorado President & CEO Lonnie Cramer, brought together first responders from across Southern Colorado for a day of camaraderie and competition for a good cause.

“I couldn’t be prouder of our team. Not only for taking home first place among first responder teams in the inaugural UCHealth Sporting Clays Invitational, but for the awareness they’ve helped raise around such an important cause,” said El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal. “Their participation supports the life-saving whole blood resuscitation program, which directly impacts lives right here in El Paso County.”

All $70,000 in proceeds from the invitational went towards UCHealth’s new Whole Blood Resuscitation Program, which launched in the Pikes Peak region in May 2024.

According to UCHealth, whole blood transfusions increase the chances of survival in the field by 40%. And thanks to events like the UCHealth Sporting Clays Invitational, first responders in El Paso and Teller counties like the Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD), Ute Pass Regional Health Services District, and the Plains to Peaks RETAC are now equipped to give whole blood transfusions and save more lives.
