Arrest made in Pueblo tavern shooting that killed one

(PUEBLO, Colo.) — A man has been arrested in connection to a deadly shooting that occurred in June at a tavern on East Northern Avenue in Pueblo.

According to the Pueblo Police Department (PPD), David Frank Martinez was arrested on Aug. 8 on a warrant for First Degree Murder in connection to a shooting at Veteran’s Tavern in the 300 block of E. Northern.

Officers originally responded to the tavern around 9:30 p.m. on June 28 on a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found one woman who had suffered non-life-threatening injuries and another who was critically injured. The critically injured woman was taken to the hospital where she later died. Her death marked the 14th homicide in Pueblo in 2024.

PPD said the Real Time Crime Center provided crucial leads to investigators, eventually leading to Martinez’s identification as a suspect in the shooting. Martinez was arrested without incident on Thursday and booked into the Pueblo County Detention Center.
