Bear gets a manicure at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo (CMZoo) shared a video detailing how two of its bears Emmett and Digger keep their nails from growing too long.

According to CMZoo, Emmett prefers his nails a little longer than Digger, but he participates in a manicure from keepers who use an electric nail file, holding it behind the nail and waiting for Emmett to make contact. Zookeepers said this allows Emmett to express when he feels ready and when he wants to stop. The sessions are kept short and only focus on one foot at a time, Emmett can also leave the session at any time.

Digger maintains his nails through the activity that gives him an apt name, digging. He also will scratch to keep his nails short. Digger’s work also creates cozy day beds that Emmett enjoys napping on.
