DENVER (KDVR) — Several football games are happening Saturday which could determine whether the University of Colorado Buffaloes make it to the Big 12 Championship game.
CU routed Oklahoma State 52-0 on Friday, keeping the Buffs in the running for the Big 12 Championships.
Depending on how other teams do on Saturday, the Buffs could be in the 2024 Dr Pepper Big 12 Football Championship next Saturday.
Scenarios for CU to be in Big 12 Championship
There are five teams in contention for the Big 12 Championship as of Saturday afternoon: Arizona State University (6-2), Brigham Young University (6-2), Iowa State University (6-2), University of Colorado (7-2) and Baylor University (5-3).
According to the Big 12, there are a few scenarios in which the Buffs would make it to the big game, including:
If BYU loses, Texas Tech wins, Baylor wins and Cincinnati wins, the Buffs will face Iowa State in the championship.
If BYU loses, Texas Tech wins, Baylor loses or Cincinnati loses, the Buffs will face Arizona State in the championship.
The Buffs are essentially depending on BYU to lose.
If Arizona State or Iowa State loses, CU will no longer be a contender for the championship.
Game schedule
Here are the games happening Saturday that will impact who makes it to the Big 12 Championship game:
Texas Tech vs. West Virginia: 11 a.m. Central Time — Texas Tech won
Baylor vs. Kansas: 11 a.m. Central Time — Baylor won
Arizona State vs. Arizona: 2:30 p.m. Central time
Cincinnati vs. Texas Christian University: 5 p.m. Central time
Iowa State vs. Kansas State: 6:30 p.m. Central Time
BYU vs. University of Houston: 9:15 p.m. Central Time
Two of these games are complete, and CU is still a contender for the championship game. Texas Tech beat West Virginia 52-15, and Baylor beat Kansas 45-17.
As of halftime, Arizona State held the lead 35-0 against Arizona.
The Big 12 Championship game will be held on Dec. 7 at 11 a.m. Central Time at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
