DENVER (KDVR) — The biological parents of a 1-month-old who was abandoned on a median on Christmas morning have been formally charged with child abuse.
On Monday, the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office said 33-year-old Christina Thurman and 41-year-old Jarvis Sims were charged with child abuse knowingly/recklessly no injury and reckless endangerment. Sims was also charged with violation of a protection order.
The charges stem from a Christmas morning incident when someone called 911 to report that a baby boy was sitting in a car seat wearing only a diaper near 7490 Pecos St. At about 8:30 p.m. that day, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office said it arrested the child’s biological parents.
The baby was taken to a local children’s hospital for observation.
FOX31 spoke exclusively to Thurman’s family. They said the baby boy was named Xion, and that he reportedly had cocaine in his system. He was allegedly in the care of his father when the couple got into a fight on Christmas morning.
“We’re trying everything to get the baby back. He belongs with family. Her other three kids are here with us, why can’t the baby be? Any one of us is willing to take that baby and make sure he is with who he belongs, with his family,” said April Aragon, Thurman’s mother.
Thurman and Sims will appear in court on Monday at 1:30 p.m.
