(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — On Monday, July 21, members of Black Forest Fire and Rescue responded to a crash involving four people on Highway 83 and North Powers Boulevard.
Black Forest Fire and Rescue said on Monday at around 11:30 a.m., crews from Black Forest Fire and Rescue and Monument Fire Protection District were called to the intersection of Hwy 83 and N. Powers Blvd. When crews arrived, they found two vehicles had collided, with one coming to rest against a traffic pole.
The four occupants of the vehicles were able to get out of the cars and were evaluated on scene by medical personnel.
According to Black Forest Fire and Rescue, this intersection has seen multiple crashes.
Black Forest Fire and Rescue said this incident serves as an important reminder about understanding traffic signals and the difference between a green light and a green arrow.
Black Forest Fire and Rescue said:
A green arrow gives you the right-of-way to make a protected left turn—oncoming traffic is stopped.
A solid green light means you may turn left, but must yield to oncoming traffic and pedestrians. It is not a protected turn.
“Parents: Make sure your teen drivers understand this crucial distinction. Adults: A quick refresher could help prevent serious accidents. Stay alert. Drive smart. Stay safe,” wrote Black Forest Fire and Rescue.
