Broncos defense shines in season opening win against Titans

(DENVER, Colo.) — The Broncos start the 2025 season with a 20-12 win over the Tennessee Titans at Empower Field at Mile High. While a win is a win, Head Coach Sean Payton said his team will have to clean things up as the season ramps up in the coming weeks.

“I think tomorrow (Monday, Sept. 8) is extremely important,” Payton said. “These next three or four Mondays, and how quickly we can accelerate the learning curve, make the corrections.”

The Broncos’ defense held the Titans to 2.4 yards per play (YPP), which is the lowest a Denver defense has held an opponent since 2017. Denver also sacked rookie Cam Ward six times, keeping Tennessee out of the end zone while only allowing 12 points.

Denver’s win comes despite four total turnovers, including three from Quarterback Bo Nix. The Broncos’ running game also struggled early on, but picked up steam as the game progressed. The Broncos will now turn the page and get ready to hit the road for the first time in 2025 as they head to Indiana to take on the Indianapolis Colts on Sept. 14, with the kickoff at 2:05 P.M. Mountain Time.
