(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A man is now in Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) custody after a disturbance at a gas station on Sunday, Sept. 7.
Officers with CSPD’s Sand Creek Division were sent to a disturbance at a gas station in the 1900 Block of East Fountain, across from Evergreen Cemetery. According to the official CSPD report, police were led to a nearby house in the 1000 Block of Stewart Place, less than a block away.
The CSPD report says that police were trying to speak with the suspect, now identified as 53-year-old Spence Massey, when he pulled a woman into a room with him. Officers report they heard a gunshot immediately after that.
CSPD officers entered the room and were able to bring Massey into custody without injury to the woman or fellow police officers. During their search, they were also able to find the gun Massey used, along with other people in the home, who were also uninjured.
Massey has been charged with First-Degree Assault, Felony Menacing, Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender, Illegal Discharge, and Reckless Endangerment.
