On Thursday, Aug. 7, just after 4:30 p.m., officers with the Cañon City Police Department (CCPD) responded to reports of a verbal disturbance in the 900 Block of Mulberry Avenue near the intersection of Highway 50 and 115. According to CCPD, neighbors told the police that 42-year-old Jacob Feezor was allegedly making “concerning threats” to multiple, unknown people.

This led officers to find that Feezor had multiple warrants for violent, weapons-related offenses.

Police on the scene were able to determine Feezor was in a house at 910 Mulberry Ave. and tried to talk Feezor into coming out of the home.

Officers outside were able to see Feezor holding what appeared to be a handgun, which prompted them to get people out of the area and call in Cañon City SWAT and Crisis Negotiation teams. Negotiators with CCPD, partnering with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, again tried to convince Feezor to leave the house.

“These negotiations spanned the course of almost three hours and involved attempts to contact family members, clergy, and others to help resolve the situation peacefully,” CCPD said in an official release.

After these attempts, Feezor stopped communicating with the police, pushing the CCPD SWAT team to enter the home, before taking Feezor into custody.

CCPD Chief Schick later said, “I could not be prouder of the commitment to end things peaceably by our team. They worked for over three hours to try to convince the subject to surrender without any escalations. Still, the defendant refused, ultimately causing CCPD’s SWAT operators to gradually escalate to a tactical option, resulting in the offender’s arrest without harm to him or our team members.”

While no firearm was actually found inside Feezor’s house, a search did find several knives.

Feezor is being held at the Fremont County Jail without bond, on the charges of Failure to Leave Premises, Resisting Arrest, and Obstructing a Peace Officer. These are in addition to the previously obtained arrest warrants for Second-Degree Assault (Cause injury with a deadly weapon), First-Degree Criminal Trespass, Harassment, Violation of a Civil Protection Order, and Violation of a Criminal Protection Order.

According to court documents, Feezor is set for an Advisement Hearing at 3 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 8, in Fremont County court.
