Car stolen from service center bay

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A Colorado Springs woman says her car was stolen from the service bay at a local dealership. She says she took the vehicle in for an oil change at Corwin Toyota Colorado Springs, and hasn’t seen it since.

The alleged crime happened about a month ago, and the owner said the dealership’s response since then has been very frustrating.

The incident was all caught on camera. Watch the security footage of the theft in the video player below:

In the video, she said you can see an employee opening the garage door, allowing someone to drive away with her car almost no questions asked.

“Then, (there were) just really frustrating conversations at that point. Didn’t really seem to get any type of better deal than any other person. We felt (with) our situation, that we were at least owed at least something there,” said Lindsey Fiedler, the owner of the stolen vehicle.

Up until FOX21 News reached out, Fiedler said the dealership had not really communicated, taken accountability, or remedied the situation.

“A few thousand dollars to them, a Toyota corporation, is not much. A few thousand dollars to me, who was laid off last summer, working two jobs to make up for that… A few thousand dollars is a lot of money to me,” said Fiedler.

She said the keys were left inside the car while it was in the service center. As they waited for police to arrive, she said she was told this isn’t the first time this has happened.

“They had put all these protocols in place, of keeping keys in lock boxes. Obviously, that did not happen with my car,” said Fiedler.

The incident resulted in the theft of not only her car, but her personal information and garage door opener.

While her insurance should cover most of it, the pregnant mother said she’d like to see Corwin Toyota cover the rest, and take responsibility for the thousands of dollars she could lose.

“There’s items inside my car that obviously, I don’t have possession of anymore, and insurance doesn’t cover those things. I already have so many other things, like a baby on the way, to pay for. Just had paid off the car as well. The car is only three years old, but still we would be out several thousand dollars to even get an equal version,” said Fiedler.

The General Manager of the dealership sent a written statement to FOX21 News:

We at Corwin Toyota Colorado Springs are very sorry for the situation and circumstances that resulted in the criminal theft of Mr. & Ms. Fiedler’s vehicle. At our dealership we have procedures and safeguards in place to limit the risk of stolen vehicles, but unfortunately in this situation the criminal was able to elude our procedural safeguards and steal Mr. & Ms. Fiedler ‘s vehicle.

The theft was immediately reported to the Colorado Springs police, and the police are investigating with our cooperation. Internally, we are also investigating the circumstances that resulted in the theft and will update our policies and procedures to help further protect our customer’s property and prevent similar crimes in the future. We have provided the customer with a loaner vehicle to use during this difficult time.

We certainly sympathize with Mr. & Ms. Fiedler and understand how frustrating it is to be subject to vehicle theft. At Corwin Toyota Colorado Springs 100% customer satisfaction is always our primary goal, and we hope we are able to work with Mr. & Ms. Fiedler to help them in this difficult situation.

Curtis Hensley, General Manager of Corwin Toyota

For the time being, the dealership did provide her with a free rental car and refunded her oil change.

“I’m not asking for a brand new car. I’m not asking for anything more than what I had. Just, you know, (a) fair trade. I have the insurance money to help pay for it. Then they just take whatever the difference is. That’s what we’re looking for,” said Fiedler.
