(CAÑON CITY, Colo.) — The Cañon City Police (CCPD) reported that two parolees were arrested on Friday, July 26, after being found with illegal drugs, a firearm, and stolen property during a shoplifting investigation.
According to CCPD, officers responded to a Walmart located in the 3100 block of US Highway 50, near Steinmeier Avenue around 1:30 p.m. on Friday on reports of a shoplifting incident in progress. When they arrived, loss prevention personnel informed the officers that the suspect had gotten into a vehicle and was leaving the area.
Officers stopped the vehicle and made contact with the three people in the car, Brian Brown (42), Christopher Colangelo (31), and Laura Lopez (31), and questioned them about the theft, according to CCPD.
CCPD reported that officers found drug paraphernalia on Brown, and after a search of the vehicle, discovered the stolen property from Walmart, along with 28.9 grams of methamphetamine, 196 fentanyl pills, .2 grams of cocaine, .9 grams of heroin, a large amount of small plastic bags, a digital scale, a meth pipe, and a handgun.
Brown, who was on parole for a prior robbery conviction, was charged with Felony Menacing, Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender, several Possession of Controlled Substance charges, Complicity of Theft, and other charges.
Lopez was charged with Theft and Complicity of Theft. Colangelo was on parole for a prior assault with a deadly weapon conviction and was charged with theft.
