CCPD says school threat is non-credible, originated in TX

(CAÑON CITY, Colo.) — The Cañon City Police Department (CCPD) reported on Sunday, Aug. 18 that several threats to “the school” had been circulating on social media — but were deemed non-credible.

The threat was made on Snapchat, an app where users can share stories that disappear after 24 hours, and went viral.

CCPD said on Facebook that the threat had been confirmed to have originated in Texas and authorities there were working to locate the person that posted the message.

“The school district received a tip that there was a threat posted online regarding the safety of our high school,” said a spokesperson with Fremont RE-1. “Upon immediate collaboration with our local police department, we were thankfully able to discern quite quickly that the threat actually had nothing to do with our community or school.”

The police department assured the public that there was no identified credible threat to the school district via Facebook on Aug. 18.

If anyone has any questions, concerns, or suspects something else might be a threat, notify the police department immediately.
