Chef: ‘We need all the support from our customers’, Chaang Thai to reopen Friday

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A local Thai restaurant owner is asking for the community’s support after a driver crashed into the eatery’s dining room earlier this week.

On Friday, Sept. 13, Chaang Thai will reopen to the public, and Owner and Chef Suwanna Meyer put a call out to the community on Facebook to visit the restaurant. “We will reopen [Friday, Sept. 13],” Chef Meyer wrote. “Please come see us, we need all the support from our customers!”

Chaang Thai is located at 7525 North Academy Boulevard near the Chapel Hills area, and Chef Meyer told FOX21 that the restaurant will reopen at 11 a.m. on Friday and will close at 8:30 p.m.

While repairs are still underway to fix the front doors, which were destroyed when the SUV crashed into the restaurant, Chef Meyer said Friday will be business as usual and the patio will be open too.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), the driver who crashed into Chaang Thai on Tuesday, Sept. 10 has been cited for reckless driving. Also, in our previous coverage on Wednesday, Sept. 11, CSPD’s Sr. Public Communications Specialist Caitlin Ford, told FOX21 that there were no injuries involved and that drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.

Chef Meyer also operates Chaang Thai’s sister restaurant, Elephant Thai, which is located at 4703 North Academy Boulevard. “We are looking forward to seeing our customers again,” wrote Chef Meyer.
