Child sexual assault suspect arrested in El Paso County, deputies say

(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) has arrested a man with ties to Colorado and New Mexico for alleged sexual exploitation and sexual assault of a child.

On July 25, the Department of Human Services reported the sexual assault of a child to EPSO detectives. According to EPSO, Special Victims Unit (SVU) detectives connected the incident to 63-year-old Richard Vasquez. The allegations against Vasquez reportedly happened in the 7000 block of Notre Way in unincorporated El Paso County.

EPSO reports that during its investigation, SVU detectives determined that Vasquez had access to other children in the Pikes Peak region and believe that additional victims may exist.

“Although the investigation originates in El Paso County, Colorado, Vasquez also has known ties to Tularosa, New Mexico,” according to the press release.

On Thursday, Oct. 23, EPSO arrested and booked Vasquez into the El Paso County Jail. He faces several charges, including Sexual Exploitation of a Child, Sexual Assault of a Child, Sexual Assault on a Child by One in a Position of Trust, and Unlawful Sexual Contact.

He is being held without bond.
