(COLORADO) — Children’s Hospital Colorado said they would resume gender-affirming care after Colorado joined a lawsuit that temporarily blocked Donald Trump’s executive order issued in January.
According to Children’s Hospital, they were forced to modify gender-affirming medical care due to President Donald Trump’s executive order issued on Jan. 28, which restricted gender-affirming care for patients under the age of 19.
“Children’s Hospital Colorado believes that families know what is best for their child,” the hospital said in a statement on Thursday, Feb. 20. “Every family should have the right to access expert medical care to support their child’s well-being, including gender-diverse youth.”
The announcement came a day after Colorado’s Attorney General Phil Weiser added Colorado to a lawsuit invalidating the executive order. A federal judge blocked the order on Friday, Feb. 14, stating it “blatantly discriminated against trans youth.”
“When the court extends the temporary restraining order to Colorado, Children’s Hospital Colorado will plan to resume gender-affirming medical care, including puberty-blocking and hormone-based care. Children’s Colorado has never provided gender-affirming surgical care for patients under the age of 18.’
The hospital will restart care across the state on Monday, Feb. 24.
