(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The City of Colorado Springs is updating its long-term homelessness response plan and seeking feedback on the draft from the public.

The City’s Housing and Community Vitality department will host an in-person meeting for the public to learn about the plan and provide feedback on Thursday, Aug. 15 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the City Administration Building located at 30 South Nevada Street, Room 102.

Mayor Mobolade addresses homelessness, city issues

“One of the main public safety concerns I hear from residents is around homelessness in Colorado Springs,” said Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade. “We have made a lot of progress in our community’s coordinated response over the last several years, but there is still more work to be done. This plan will reflect our community’s priorities, outline key strategies, and coordinate our resources to where they can make the biggest difference.”

The City will also host a virtual meeting that same day from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The updated plan is designed to reflect the community’s priorities and outline strategies to address the critical concern of homelessness in the city.

The plan will focus on:

Increasing street outreach programs and availability of need-based shelter options

Enforcing laws and protecting people, environment and property

Providing employment opportunities for unhoused citizens

Prioritizing homeless preventative efforts such as mental health care.

Increasing the number of very low-income affordable housing units and housing units with supportive services.

Provide transparent, proactive, accessible communications to the public.

Individuals can register at the link above to attend either event.
