City of Pueblo approves money for park security cameras

(PUEBLO, Colo.) — On Monday, Dec. 9, Pueblo City Council unanimously passed a resolution to authorize the use of $1 million to install security cameras at parks in the city.

According to the City of Pueblo, the new security cameras will integrate with the Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) of the Pueblo Police Department (PPD), including cameras and license plate readers which will allow the RTCC to pull footage when or if a crime is reported in the parks included in the resolution.

The City said the cameras would not be monitored on a regular basis and are for when it is needed to go back and review footage for a crime, disturbance or other issue reported.

The technology being implemented in the parks will also help Pueblo Parks and Recreation with their wifi needs for concessions at the pools and for events like the Rides at City Park, according to the City.

Funds for the cameras come from the American Rescue Plan Act.
