Colorado Springs Utilities: Customers receive “suspicious” water test kits

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Colorado Springs Utilities (Springs Utilities) is warning the community after customers reported receiving water test kits that Springs Utilities said it did not send.

According to Springs Utilities, customers have reported receiving an “Annual Water Test” kit through the mail, which Springs Utilities said did not originate from the Utility.

While Springs Utilities said it will occasionally test the quality of water, several steps will be taken before that happens:

Springs Utilities will always contact customers in advance

Customers will be asked for their voluntary assistance with testing

Kits provided will bear the official logo of Springs Utilities and detailed instructions

“These tests are likely a deceptive tactic by companies trying to sell expensive, unnecessary water filtration systems,” Springs Utilities said.

If you receive one of these kits, Springs Utilities urged that you do not use it and do not provide any personal information. If customers have concerns or questions about the validity of anything they receive from the Utility, they can contact (719) 448-4800.
