Colorado State Patrol to conduct sobriety checkpoints this summer

(COLORADO) — The Colorado State Patrol (CSP) is conducting sobriety checkpoints this summer, beginning with one in Alamosa and another in Douglas County.

During the weekend of June 20 and 21, CSP will perform a sobriety check at the Alamosa County Checkpoint and the Douglas County Checkpoint. They will perform the checkpoints during the following times:

Alamosa County: 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Douglas County: 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Initially, Alamosa’s checkpoint was set for June 14; however, it was postponed. Despite the checkpoint being postponed to the following week, the Colorado State Patrol will enhance patrol efforts in the area.

“The Colorado State Patrol reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol,” CSP said. “Some prescription medications or over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. Always follow directions for use and read warning labels about driving or operating “heavy machinery,” which includes driving a vehicle. While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is also illegal.”

CSP said checkpoint locations will be chosen based on the history of DUI crashes and arrests. During the checkpoint, law enforcement will look for signs that drivers are under the influence.
