Community event focuses on breast cancer awareness

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Local health care workers are making it a year-round mission to inform the community about available resources for breast cancer awareness. Peak Vista Community Health Center hosted a community resource fair on Saturday, May 17, at its Women’s Health Center in Colorado Springs.

A dozen vendors that provide breast cancer screenings, preventative care, and support services for those living with breast cancer were available to answer any questions.

Organizers said getting health care providers and community members in the same room is a great way to educate and equip people on their journeys.

“One in eight women will experience breast cancer in their lifetime, and a lot of women are afraid of screenings or don’t know how to get screened, and so we like to let the community know we are here to help them through that process,” said Leah Holland, Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner

Peak Vista offered food giveaways and games, in addition to tours of the newly renovated and expanded women’s health center.
