Community support sought for soldier funerals

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Individuals are encouraged to attend two service member funerals where there are no known family or friends on Monday, June 23.

The Honor Flight of Southern Colorado reported they were made aware of two military funerals where there were no known family or friends.

“Very little is known about these two — it took a bit to get their names and rank,” the nonprofit reported via Facebook.

The funerals of U.S. Army Sgt. Donald Ray Johnson and U.S. Marine Corporal Carmel Leroy Rivale will take place on Monday, June 23, at 9 a.m. The two members are not a part of the Honor Flight, but they are a part of the larger military family.

The Honor Flight of Southern Colorado is asking those who are able to attend to take time and honor the two service members. “If your schedule permits, we hope you will take time to help honor these two service members at their upcoming interment.”

The funerals will be held at Pikes Peak National Cemetery, located at 10545 Drennan Road in Colorado Springs.
