(LAS ANIMAS COUNTY, Colo.) — A 3rd Judicial District Court Judge has filed charges against a former wrestling coach at Trinidad State College.
Previously, John Lewis had a warrant out for his arrest and was taken into custody by the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) on June 10.
Lewis appeared in front of a judge on Wednesday, June 25, for a status hearing and filing of charges. Previously, he was wanted on various charges, including Criminal Extortion. However, those charges seemed to have been dropped on Wednesday, according to court documents.

Lewis served at Trinidad State College in 2023 and was “separated from employment” in December 2024. In 2025, a college in Missouri had reportedly hired him as the third Head Coach of the men’s program.
Per court documents, Lewis posted bond on June 10. His next court appearance is set for 10 a.m. on Monday, July 30.
