Suspect killed in officer-involved shooting identified

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has released more information about the officer-involved shooting that left a suspect dead on Monday, June 23.

At around 1 a.m. on Monday, CSPD received a call regarding shots fired at an apartment located in the 1400 block of Michelle Court, near Fountain and Murray Boulevards. Upon arrival, officers encountered the armed suspect and gave him verbal commands to drop the weapon.

According to police, the suspect raised the firearm and fired at least one round toward officers. In response, two officers fired at least one round, striking the suspect. The suspect, identified as a 51-year-old Jesus Ramirez Jr., was pronounced dead at the scene.


One suspect dead following overnight officer-involved shooting

No officers or other individuals were injured during the incident. Per department policy, the officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave. As required by Colorado law, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) is the lead investigative agency in this officer-involved shooting.
