CSFD celebrates young leukemia survivor on his birthday

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) shared a story of a 7-year-old who was recently declared cancer-free and how CSFD helped him overcome anxiety during his first treatment.

According to CSFD, two years ago when Asher was getting his first treatment for leukemia he was really nervous on the drive to Children’s Hospital. A CSFD vehicle pulled up next to their car at a stop light and waved at Asher. CSFD also unknowingly led Asher and his mom to the hospital for his treatment.

Ever since then, when traveling to the hospital for treatment, Asher would look for a fire truck and his mom said it is what kept him calm every single time.

CSFD said as of Tuesday, March 12, Asher was cancer-free, and Tuesday was also Asher’s 7th birthday. CSFD was able to surprise Asher on his birthday and join him for his big day.

“Asher, you are our HERO and we are so grateful and honored to have participated in your ceremonial bell ringing to signify you being cancer-free,” said CSFD.
