DENVER (KDVR) — A Colorado State Patrol trooper’s vehicle and highway worker early Sunday morning were hit by a suspected under-the-influence driver while the trooper was responding to an earlier six-vehicle crash, according to CSP.

The trooper and a Colorado Department of Transportation contract worker were on U.S. 36 near Pecos Street, assisting with a six-vehicle crash that had injured three people just before midnight Saturday night, according to CSP and Adams County Fire. At around 2 a.m., a black 2011 Toyota Camry struck the rear of the CSP vehicle, causing it to pin the highway contract worker.

After the crash, the Camry continued driving east on U.S. 36 until a second CSP trooper performed a TVI maneuver to stop it from fleeing, according to CSP.

The driver, Bryan Granillo, 28, was taken into custody at the scene and faces charges of:

Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Drugs, or a combination of both

Felony Eluding

Failure to Remain at the Scene of a Crash

The CSP trooper whose vehicle was hit and the highway worker were taken to a hospital, where they were assessed for injuries and released. CSP said the trooper, Miguel Jeronimo, who has been with CSP for nearly seven years, suffered minor injuries.

In the earlier crash they were responding to, six vehicles were involved and a taco truck rolled over during the crash, according to Adams County Fire. Three people were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
