DENVER (KDVR) — The Colorado State Patrol announced an arrest warrant earlier this month for a motorcyclist who posted a YouTube of himself driving over 150 mph on Interstate 25 between Colorado Springs and Denver.
“When I saw that video it just shows the recklessness of the individual,” Master Trooper Gary Cutler said Wednesday.
The Dallas Police Department, El Paso County District Attorney’s Office and Colorado State Patrol worked together and identified the rider as Rendon Dietzmann, 32, of Texas. He’s facing numerous charges relating to the video, including menacing and reckless endangerment.
“We don’t need these thrill seekers out here thinking this is a fun game,” Cutler said.
CSP said Dietzmann made it from the Garden of the Gods exit in Colorado Springs to the Dry Creek Road exit in Denver in 20 minutes, at some points hitting over 150 mph.
“It frightens me to death, it frightens all of us,” Cutler said.
FOX31’s Courtney Fromm was on social media and saw posts in a public Facebook group containing photos of individuals tracking their timing on the same commute.
“This is a sad state of what people are doing if they think this a fun challenge putting people’s lives at risk,” Cutler said.
He said CSP and other agencies are out on the interstates looking for speeders and they even have aircraft in the sky tracking those going fast on the road.
“We do have troopers out there looking for people,” Cutler said.
He also said if people are posting about speeding on the interstates publicly often officials can find it.
“We do have investigators who have access to a lot of different ways to see posts,” Master Trooper Cutler said.
