CSPD: Armed suspect arrested in northern Colorado Springs

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — An armed suspect has been arrested after an altercation with the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) on Thursday, Sept. 18.

Around 5 p.m. on Thursday, officers with CSPD’s Stetson Hills Division were sent to the 2900 block of Roche Drive, near the intersection with Vickers Drive and North Union Boulevard, to investigate a possible suicidal man in the neighborhood, who was also reported to be hostile.

Once in the area, officers made contact with 47-year-old George Ransom, who police said was displaying erratic behavior and allegedly stated that he would come out of his house with guns if police did not leave.

Shortly after, Ransom left his home armed with a shotgun and approached an officer, coming within 20 feet. Ransom proceeded to drop the shotgun, only to go back into his house and return with a handgun.

After this, Ransom threw the gun into his neighbor’s yard before being taken into custody.

Further investigation into the guns Ransom brought out revealed that one of them was possibly an illegal firearm. Ransom has since been booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center and faces First-Degree Assault charges.

CSPD reported that no officers were injured during the incident and that its Intelligence Unit has been notified of the incident.
