(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A domestic disturbance call led to the arrest of a suspect and a child’s rescue after police responded to an apartment complex in east Colorado Springs on Thursday, Sept. 18, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD).
On Thursday just after 8 a.m., officers were called to the 6100 block of Mustang Meadow Point, which is near the intersection of Tutt Boulevard and Barnes Road, to investigate a domestic disturbance.
When police arrived, they learned the suspect, later identified as 36-year-old Peter Hughes, was inside the victim’s apartment along with their six-year-old daughter.
“During the investigation, officers developed probable cause for Second-Degree Burglary, three counts of Protection Order Violation, False Imprisonment, and Child Abuse,” police said. “After several unsuccessful attempts to establish communication with the suspect, officers obtained a search and arrest warrant.”
According to CSPD, the child was safely removed from the apartment unharmed after members of the El Paso County Special Enforcement Division were called to assist with the investigation.
Officers said Hughes refused to come out of the apartment despite several lawful orders from police to do so. “Chemical munitions were later introduced into the apartment, eventually causing the suspect to exit the residence,” police said.
According to CSPD, Hughes was taken into custody without further incident.
