(COLORADO SPRINGS) — According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), officers responded to a robbery at the 500 block of South Nevada Avenue, near East Cimarron Street, after a man threatened an employee with a knife on Sunday morning, Jan. 12.

CSPD reported that around 9:15 a.m., officers quickly found the man across the street outside a motel in the 200 block of East Cimarron Street. He was allegedly armed with a machete and acting as if he had a handgun. Officers were able to use less-lethal tools to take him into custody.

The suspect was identified as 35-year-old Ian Almeida.
