CSPD details minor’s alleged crimes during crime spree

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) detailed a minor’s alleged actions during a multi-county crime spree that happened on Tuesday, Oct. 14.

On Tuesday, around noon, the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) responded to an alleged carjacking in Silver Cliff, where a gray SUV was stolen. CSPD said the suspect drove to Colorado Springs and continued the crime spree.

At around 1:30 p.m. near the South Murray Boulevard and East Fountain Boulevard, the suspect allegedly pointed a gun at a CDOT employee who was working on the roadway. At around 2:30 p.m. in the 200 block of North Union Boulevard near East Platte Avenue, the suspect allegedly pointed a gun at a victim and attempted another carjacking.

CSPD said at around 3:40 p.m. in the Memorial Park area, the suspect attempted another carjacking, again pointing a gun at a victim. At around 4 p.m., the suspect pointed their gun at several people while attempting to steal another car.

The suspect allegedly crossed the street and carjacked a mother and her three children after he fired his gun at the mother. Officers arrived in the area and, after a short pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody in the 1100 block of Academy Park Loop near South Academy Boulevard and East Fountain Boulevard.

CSPD said the suspect was a 15-year-old minor who was taken to a detention facility after detectives investigated the incident. The minor is facing charges of:

Attempted First Degree Murder

Two counts of Aggravated Robbery

Three counts of Attempted Aggravated Robbery

Two counts of Motor Vehicle Theft

10 counts of Felony Meanacing

Vehicular eluding

Illegal Possession of a Handgun by Juvenile

Four counts of Reckless Endangerment

Obstruction
