(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has issued a warrant for an alleged kidnapping suspect who escaped police on Wednesday night, May 21.
On Wednesday, May 21, CSPD officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of Dublin Boulevard, near North Academy Boulevard, after a victim used the business phone to report domestic violence. She reported that her child was with her and the suspect. She also identified her car to the calltaker before terminating the call.
When officers arrived, they attempted to contact the vehicle, but it fled at a high rate of speed. According to CSPD, officers observed the victim in the passenger seat.
Officers contacted the victim on her phone. “She reported being in a different state, amongst other evasive answers, furthering officers’ concerns that she was not safe,” police said.
CSPD conducted an emergency ping of her phone and were able to locate the car while she and the suspect were exiting the vehicle. Officers made contact, and after the woman exited, the suspect escaped again.
Officers followed and engaged in a short pursuit, but when it was confirmed the child was not in the car, it was terminated.
Through an investigation, police learned that the suspect had a felony warrant from the Department of Corrections. A warrant for Felony Eluding, Kidnapping, Robbery, and other charges has also been issued, according to CSPD.
