(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) said that officers were dispatched to a reported home invasion near Aeroplaza Drive and East Fountain Boulevard on Saturday, Aug. 17, leading to a chase in which a CSPD K9 helped to catch the suspect.
According to CSPD, officers arrived at the scene in the 1200 block of Flycatcher Lane around 7 p.m. on Saturday and learned that a man wearing a ski mask had entered the home and demanded money from the people who lived there. The suspect drove from the scene before police arrived but was located several miles away by a K9 officer.
The suspect was identified as 33-year-old Xavier Smith, said CSPD, and he was taken into custody for several charges, including First Degree Burglary, Aggravated Robbery, and Felony Menacing. The investigation is ongoing.
