(COLORADO SPRINGS) — According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) after several smash-and-grab burglaries in the overnight hours of Wednesday, June 18, to Thursday, June 19, CSPD identified the home of a prolific burglary and auto-theft suspect, resulting in the arrest of several people, including one who had been arrested several times before.
CSPD reported that the string of smash-and-grab burglaries involved the use of stolen vehicles, targeting vape stores and marijuana shops. Detectives from the Metro Burglary Unit investigated the incidents, leading them to the home of a suspect, who they believed to be involved in the smash-and-grab burglaries.
On Friday, June 20, around 3 p.m., multiple units, including Metro Theft, Metro Burglary, K9, Drone, and Tactical Enforcement executed a search warrant at an apartment in the 300 block of Shardow Ridge Grove, near the intersection of North Nevada Avenue and Garden of the Gods Road.
According to CSPD, several suspects tried to run at first, but were quickly caught. Two underage offenders were taken into custody, one of whom had more than eight felony warrants for their arrest at the time.
CSPD stated that the suspect with eight warrants had been previously arrested and released for burglary and motor vehicle theft offenses in November and December of 2024 and January and April of 2025. According to CSPD, “a non-profit organization providing SB94 services to El Paso County has been involved in advocating for and overseeing the offender’s release and supervision following each of the crimes described above.”
