(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has placed officers on administrative leave after one fired at least one shot at an alleged road rage suspect.
On Tuesday, March 11 at around 3:35 p.m. police received a call for service for a reported road rage incident involving a firearm. When the officer contacted the reporting party, they developed suspect information that led them to an apartment complex in the 2100 block of Delta Drive, near Hancock Expy.
At around 9:30 p.m., officers knocked on the door and attempted to contact the suspect. Officers announced themselves as police, and the suspect opened the door with a raised handgun pointed at officers. At that time, at least one officer fired at least one shot.
Nobody was struck by gunfire.
CSPD said a short time later, the suspect was taken into custody.
The CSPD officers that were involved have been placed on administrative leave per policy. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) is the lead investigative agency for the officer-involved shooting.
Within 21 days, CSPD will release a significant event briefing video with body-worn camera footage from the incident.
