CSPD: Officer uninjured after being hit by fleeing suspect

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — An officer is okay after being hit by a fleeing suspect in a car on Tuesday, June 3 in the Stetson Hills area.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), officers originally responded around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday to the 5300 block of Palomino Point, near the intersection of North Powers Boulevard and Stetson Hills Boulevard, after a caller reported two people passed out in “unnatural positions” in a car.

When officers arrived, CSPD said there was visible drug paraphernalia in the car. Officers tried to make contact with the people in the car, and once the driver was awake, they put the car into drive and fled, hitting an officer in the process. Thankfully, the officer was uninjured.

CSPD said officers did not pursue the car, though another call was received by dispatchers a few minutes later reporting that a car was driving recklessly through a townhome complex south of Dublin Boulevard, near Powers. The caller reported that the car had hit a landscaping boulder, and the two people were seen running from the area.

Officers responded and located the car, also locating the passenger as they canvassed the area. The driver was not located, though CSPD said the driver has been identified and will be facing multiple charges, including felony assault of a peace officer.
