CSPD: Regional Explosive Unit called on traffic stop

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) reported that on Sunday, March 2, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) conducted a traffic stop in which they discovered what appeared to be a homemade explosive device.

CSPD said that around 1:30 a.m., EPSO had conducted the traffic stop around the 5800 block of Palmer Park Boulevard, near North Powers Boulevard. Deputies were doing an inventory search to impound the vehicle when they found the device. They called in the Regional Explosive Unit (REU) to assist.

REU determined that the device was a consumer-grade firework with a missing label. REU took the firework to dispose of it.
