(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has released more information about the woman who was arrested after being found with a missing teen from Denver.
On Tuesday morning, June 4 officers with CSPD’s Homeless Outreach Team were conducting camp checks near the drainage ditch, south of West Garden of the Gods Road near North Chestnut Street when they spotted a woman allegedly in possession of a drug paraphernalia, along with a 14-year-old boy.
The woman, now identified as 35-year-old Jean Thomas, claimed the boy was her son. The minor confirmed this with officers; they were both taken in for further investigation and processing.
The Department of Human Services (DHS) was notified and responded regarding the teen’s placement. During a conversation with DHS about the 14-year-old, officers learned that the woman allegedly gave a false name for the teen and he was later identified as a December 2023 runaway from Denver.
CSPD said the minor was reunited with his family. Thomas was arrested in June and is facing charges of drug possession, drug paraphernalia, possession of a financial device, and child abuse.
At the moment, CSPD has no further updates about the case or the minor. Officers are still investigating the case and the relationship between the suspect and the minor.
