CSPD: Rollover crash caused by speeding on icy roads

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Icy roads caused a rollover crash, on I-25 near Centennial Boulevard, that trapped one person on Wednesday, Feb. 12, but emergency crews were able to free the person and clear the roads quickly, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD).

CSPD reported that officers and the Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) crew arrived at the scene of the crash around 4:30 a.m. and found an overturned vehicle in the middle of the northbound lanes with one person trapped inside. CSFD was able to free the trapped person, who had only received minor injuries.

All northbound lanes of I-25 were diverted at Centennial Boulevard for a little less than an hour while responders quickly worked to make the roadway safe for travel again.

The driver of the overturned vehicle was served for careless driving, and according to CSPD, it is suspected that the driver was traveling too fast for the icy conditions. Drivers are reminded to reduce speeds and use extra caution when driving in winter conditions.
