(COLORADO SPRINGS) — FOX21 Storm Team Meteorologist Megan Montero was out in the FOX21 News Storm Squatch on Wednesday morning, Feb. 12, to check out road conditions and the snowy commute across El Paso County. Check out her reports from around the area.

Early in the morning, conditions were icy and frigid at 5 a.m. near Black Forest Road and Shoup Road.

At 5:40 a.m. on I-25 north of Academy Boulevard, plows were out in full force, but it does leave an icy sheen on the roads as well.

At 6 a.m., things were still frigid and slippery around I-25 and Interquest Parkway, cars were driving carefully and slowly.

Around 6:40 a.m., on Highway 83 near Flying Horse, heading toward Interquest, roads were still icy in many places, though plows were getting several areas cleared. The wind was blowing snow around, making visibility spotty.

Around 7 a.m. near I-25 and Interquest, the wind and cold air were causing freezing conditions, even though the sun started peering through the clouds.

Around 7:40 a.m., the Squatch was near Palmer Divide on I-25 and Megan highlighted the importance of making sure wiper fluid is full when driving on icy roads, as cars kick up the snow onto the windshields of the cars behind them.

Around 8 a.m., Megan was dancing around to stay warm and said the roads were starting to look better on I-25 until you got near Monument Hill, where it suddenly got icy again and things slowed down a lot.

Finally, Megan wrapped it up around 8:40 a.m. on I-25, north of Colorado Springs, when the sun had come out and, along with the plows, were making things better, though some spots would still be icy. Megan said today would be a day that requires sunglasses as the sun glares off the snow and ice, so keep your eyes protected.
