CSPD: Story of suspect entering home and shooting, false

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) said police were given false information while responding to a shooting in the early morning hours of Thursday, May 29.

According to CSPD, on Thursday at around 5:15 a.m., police got a call about a shooting in the 1300 block of Grass Valley Drive near South Academy Boulevard and South Nevada Avenue. Initial notes stated the shooting was self-inflicted, but later stated a suspect had entered a home and shot the person living there.

When police arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound and immediately rendered aid, applying a tourniquet. Later, more medical resources responded and helped with ongoing medical treatment.

Police investigated and learned the man in the home had shot himself, and the story of a suspect entering the home and shooting him had been fabricated. The man sustained a non-life-threatening injury and was taken to the hospital.

The man was served and released with a date to appear in court. CSPD said there is no threat to the community, and the initial patrol investigation is closed. Anyone with more information is encouraged to call CSPD at (719) 444-7000.
