CSPD reported that the crash had originally been thought to be a road rage incident, but later it appeared that both cars were involved in a speeding contest, changing lanes and jockeying for position on the interstate. While weaving in and out of traffic, one of the cars hit a third vehicle, a Toyota truck, that was not involved in the speeding contest.

The Toyota lost control and hit a gold Honda Pilot, which also lost control and hit the center median guard rail, went airborne, and rolled onto its passenger side, hitting a concrete light structure as it landed. One of the seven passengers in the Pilot, 21-year-old Salvador Diaz, was pronounced dead at the scene.

One of the drivers of the speeding contest was identified as 44-year-old Durriel Humphrey, who was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide, according to CSPD.

The Major Crash Team continues to investigate this crash to identify the driver of the white Dodge Charger that was found on April 30. No additional arrests have been made at this time. CSPD thanks the community for their help with the investigation and asks that if anyone has information on the crash, they call CSPD at (719)444-7000.
