Deputies: Weather causes hazardous driving conditions in Custer County

(CUSTER COUNTY, Colo.) — The Custer County Sheriff’s Office reported that hazardous conditions on highways in the county have caused several crashes on Tuesday, May 6.

According to the sheriff’s office, due to the slippery roads, several drivers have encountered difficulties. One car went over an embankment near milepost 16, just west of the intersection with Highway 165. A rollover crash occurred on Highway 78, near Bishop’s Castle, and two other vehicles slid off the road on Highway 96, east of Westcliffe.

The sheriff’s office stated that no injuries were reported in any of the incidents and no roads were closed or blocked as of 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday.

According to COTrip, drivers can expect heavy snow and rain showers in the area, causing wet and slippery conditions on Highway 96 between Westcliffe and Pueblo.

The Custer County Sheriff’s Office reported that the Custer County School closed at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday to allow parents to pick up their kids and get home safely.
