(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A new program implemented by Colorado State University Pueblo (CSUP), in partnership with Pueblo School District 60 (D60), is making the admission process easier for college-bound seniors.
Here’s how it works: CSUP’s Direct Admission program evaluates Pueblo students for admission automatically, according to regular admission standards. If they’re eligible, the student receives an acceptance letter at the beginning of their senior year, along with any scholarships they are eligible to receive.
Other states that have used Direct Admission initiatives have seen a big jump in first-year college enrollment—8 to 15%.
“Oftentimes many students do not apply to college out of concern over being denied or because of the length and cost of the application process,” said Lee Saunders, Executive Director of Admissions at CSUP. “Direct Admission quells the fears, removes the cost and burden, and puts the power of higher earning potential via a college degree right in students’ hands.”
The Direct Admission program doesn’t cost students anything, and there is no obligation to attend CSUP if admitted. Being admitted automatically to CSUP does not affect the admission process for other colleges.
“Students from underserved populations, students in online programs—truly any student—can benefit from the boost of confidence, sense of belonging and achievement, and opening of doors to a brighter future that a letter of guaranteed admission to CSUP provides,” said Executive Director of Admissions Saunders.
