DENVER (KDVR) — A deputy was injured after a semi hauling a trailer crashed into a parked Weld County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle on Interstate 25 on Wednesday morning.

Around 4:13 a.m., the Colorado State Patrol said it responded to a crash after a semi hit a Weld County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle that was parked on the right shoulder of I-25 behind an unoccupied Nissan Rogue, waiting for a tow truck after a DUI arrest.

State patrol said the semi ran off the road and into a ditch between Interstate 25 and Frontage Road. Just before 7 a.m., SkyFOX flew over the scene, where the semi was still on the side of the road.

A deputy was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, but was released later Wednesday morning. The state patrol said the semi driver didn’t report any injuries.

The Colorado State Patrol Hazmat Unit also responded after a fuel leak from the crash.

Only one southbound lane of I-25 was open near milepost 236, but just before 7 a.m., all lanes had reopened. Traffic is flowing, but the patrol said there may be some residual slowing as the scene clears.

At this time, it’s unclear what caused the crash. The state patrol said the crash is still under investigation.
